To help residents and businesses get ready for to join the broadband
revolution, we have launched a brand new site - ready4broadband.co.uk.

A brief history of our Campaign to bring Broadband Internet Access (ADSL) to Mossley
The aim of this site was obtain support to enable Mossley’s
telephone exchange to be upgraded to receive Broadband (ADSL) capability.
Broadband is set to change our lives because it enables much more
information to be passed more quickly. Without broadband, users
would not be able to fully access the range of multimedia services
via the internet available now and in the future.
Over 66% of the UK population can already access Broadband, including
many of our surrounding areas - Ashton, Stalybridge, Saddleworth
and Oldham, but until now Mossley had been overlooked.
The Mossley exchange was part of a 500 exchange BT review due
to be completed at the end of June. Following this review, it was hoped that BT would announce that all or some of these 500 exchanges would be upgraded to receive ADSL. BT however shelved this idea - much to the anger of many people who were hoping their exchange would be upgraded - preferring instead to introduce a pre-registration scheme. Under this scheme, non-ADSL exchanges were each set a minimum trigger level of pre-registrations, which had to be reached before BT would
consider upgrading an exchange. Not all exchanges were set a trigger
level, however for those that were, these ranged from 250 to 500 pre-registrations (the vast majority of these exchanges were set trigger levels of 350 or 400). Mossley's trigger level was set at 400.
Broadband would be beneficial to both residential and business customers alike. In the future, areas which did
not have access to a broadband service may find it hard to attract new businesses and house prices could even suffer. Bear in mind, those who are already using and know the advantages of broadband, would possibly think twice about moving into non-broadband area. We had to act to ensure Mossley was not left behind!
